Antibodies and Application in Medicine

antibodies.jpgMost people have come across the term antibody only in a biology class but there is more to understand about antibodies if you only know the term. In simpler terms antibodies are immunoglobulin produced by white blood cells. Under a microscope they appear in Y shapes and they respond to antigens that are a threat in threat to the well-being of the body. The moment a threat to the well-being of the body enters the body the immune system starts to act against it. Bacteria, virus and other chemicals are the most common disease causing organisms or threats to the well-being of the body. Upon the antigen entry being detected the immune system will produce antibodies which mark the disease causing organism and its destroyed. Antibodies pictured in a different scenario are like scouts that are sent to mark the intruder which is the antigen and they do this by sticking to it and the immune system takes over by destroying the marked antigen.

Antibodies work in an intriguing way where each of the antibody is made for a specific antigen, it has special receptors that stick to the one antigen it is made for. Once the antigen has been fought by the body, the antibody is not discarded the body keeps it just in case there is a similar attack in the future. In fact when there is a similar attack by the same antigen in the future, the response to stop the intruder will be quicker. Immunizations are just mild forms of an antigen that trigger the creation of antibodies in the immune system and that way the body stays guarded. Antibodies exist in five types and surprisingly they are located in different parts the body. Learn more about IHC antibodies or find the best IHC services.

Manipulation of systems of organisms is nothing new in this era where medicine advancement is at an all-time high. Immunohistochemistry in medicine takes a combination of immunological, anatomical and biochemical techniques to screen discrete components in the tissue using antibodies that have been labeled appropriately where they bind with the antigens. Here the process is not after just any antigen , its specific hence the use in tests to check for antigens of a targeted kind.

IHC Immunohistochemistry has several applications, its used in drug development , in research and developing drugs. Physicians use IHC to determine whether a patient has tumor through use of special antigen markers which is very effective. Immunohistochemistry is used either as a primary diagnosis or it could be used as a confirmatory diagnosis to have sufficient confirmation. In research the immunohistochemistry procedure can be used with other procedures of analysis or be relied on alone depending on what the research is after. In development of drugs, immunohistochemistry checks for the efficacy , activity or changes in the tissue with targeted antigens.
